Internship Orientation Program

 

(BAMS 2019 Batch )

Date: 15th April 2025 to 23rd April 2025

 

An Internship Orientation Program was conducted for the BAMS 2019 batch passed-out students from 15th April 2025 to 23rd April 2025. The aim was to familiarize interns with clinical protocols, departmental functioning, professional ethics, and the responsibilities they will undertake during their internship.

Day -1

Introduction to Internship

Welcome Address, Dr. Satendra Kumar (Director)

  • General Focus Areas During Orientation:
  • Patient communication and professional interaction
  • Systematic case history taking and examination
  • Clinical observation and hands-on exposure
  • OPD/IPD record maintenance and report writing
  • Department-specific procedures and protocols
  • Ethical conduct, punctuality, and teamwork

 

Department-Wise Orientation Summary

 

  1. Kayachikitsa (Dr. Nidhi)

 

  • Introduction to the scope of Kayachikitsa in clinical practice
  • Techniques of polite and effective communication with patients
  • Detailed history taking (chief complaints, personal, past, and family history)
  • General and systemic clinical examination methods
  • Understanding Ayurvedic diagnostic tools like Nadi Pariksha, Prakriti assessment
  • Observation of case management and treatment protocols
  • Proper maintenance of OPD and IPD registers, patient case sheets

 

Day :- 2

 

  1. Panchakarma Department (Dr. Yogesh Kumar)

 

  • Overview of Panchakarma therapy and its five major procedures
  • Patient assessment and selection for Panchakarma
  • Demonstration of therapies: Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Raktamokshana
  • Training in preparation and post-procedure care
  • Hygiene and aseptic protocols in Panchakarma theater
  • Maintenance of Panchakarma procedure logs and patient feedback

 

Day :- 3

 

  1. Shalya Tantra Department (Dr.Rakesh & Dr.Pooja)

 

  • Orientation on basic surgical principles and emergency care
  • Surgical case history taking and examination techniques
  • Observation of minor surgical procedures
  • Hands-on training in dressing, bandaging, and suturing under supervision
  • Knowledge of sterilization and OT protocol
  • Maintenance of pre-op and post-op records, and medico-legal documentation

 

Day :- 4

 

  1. Shalakya Tantra Department (Dr. Priety)

 

  • Focused history taking related to ENT and eye disorders
  • Use of ENT and ophthalmology diagnostic tools (otoscope, ophthalmoscope, etc.)
  • Observation of procedures like Netra Tarpana, Karnapoorana, and Nasya
  • Basics of oral and dental cavity examination
  • Counseling patients and maintaining departmental registers

 

Day :- 5

 

  1. Balroga Department (Dr. Devanshu & Dr. Sushimita))

 

  • Communication with children and parents sensitively
  • Pediatric case history: birth, immunization, growth milestones
  • Identification and management of common childhood illnesses
  • Observation of pediatric treatments in Ayurvedic practice
  • Monitoring of height, weight, head circumference
  • Documentation of immunization records and pediatric OPD sheets

 

Day :- 6

 

  1. Prasuti & Stri Roga Department (Dr.Archana & Dr.Bushra)

 

  • Detailed obstetric and gynecological history taking
  • ANC (Antenatal Care) and PNC (Postnatal Care) procedures
  • Monitoring fetal development and maternal health
  • Observation of normal deliveries and labor room protocols
  • Management of common gynecological disorders
  • Proper entry in ANC register, delivery records, and case files

 

 

 

Dr.Simran, (Principal & Hospital Superintendent) Concluding Address – Key Instructions for Interns:

 

  • Punctuality: Report on time and adhere to duty hours strictly
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain respectful behavior with patients, faculty, and staff
  • Appearance: Wear clean apron, carry stethoscope, pen, and notebook daily
  • Record Maintenance: Accurately update OPD/IPD registers, case notes, and logbooks
  • Confidentiality: Protect patient privacy and uphold medical ethics
  • Team Spirit: Cooperate with peers and hospital staff as a responsible team member
  • Discipline: Avoid negligence; misconduct will be taken seriously
  • Learning Attitude: Show enthusiasm to learn and actively participate in clinical activities

 

 

She encouraged interns to take the internship as a serious professional phase, bridging student life and medical practice, and to represent the institution with dignity and responsibility.
